Are you a routine person? Do you have a schedule that you live by every day? It’s easy to get into the same old routine. Personally, I am not a schedule girl by nature. I do have some routines, but after being in the working world, where you go into a building, and they hand you a schedule, I like to be more flexible, because I can.
Don’t get me wrong, I can see the benefits of a schedule. However, I like to be flexible and available to participate in case something comes up— a phone call or a personal visit. Breakfast anyone?
I have a semi-schedule where I officially keep my grands on certain days. These days are the highlight of my week. I love it when I can just pop over and see them in their everyday routines as well. Sometimes we can get into routines and forget to enjoy life around us. I don’t want to miss out on a new adventure.
April has been a huge out-of-the-box month for me. I had the privilege of going to a destination wedding in Beaufort, South Carolina. Planning for this event caused anticipation with curiosity and excitement playfully tickling my brain. It was a total paradigm shift for my mind — finding a new place to stay, new things to see, and catching up with friends was totally refreshing. The wedding was like an adventure. The details were exquisite. The bride and groom’s personalities were evident in every touch, as well as those of the mother and father of the bride. They mingled with everyone in their genuine nature, not in a politician’s style. You could “feel the love.” Every guest I met was interesting and pleasant to be around. The wedding ceremony, which took place in a little Presbyterian Church, was personal, with the bride and groom being natural and humorous in their expressions and body language. Loved it. The reception venue was set on a bluff with a perfect view of the river, marsh, and live oak trees. Enchanting does not give it justice.
Joe and I took a quick tour around the town established back in 1711. The history of this town was fascinating and caused me to imagine what the settlers thought when they first ventured over the river. I know it’s changed since then, but the quaintness of Beaufort, South Carolina, beckons you to return. I can definitely see why my friend retired, and her daughter wanted to get married there. Nevertheless, I miss her.
On our way home, I stopped by and saw my mother for just an hour or two because we were driving near there. Seeing someone in person in lieu of the daily call is priceless to me.
My birthday was a week later. Breakfasts, phone calls, cards, presents, gifs, and texts were a welcome change to the silent days of a writer. My son was born three days after my birthday, so our celebration turned into a weekend celebration of pizza, ice cream, playgrounds, and bowling. Needless to say, when May rolled around, I was a little tired, but I felt rejuvenated because I had stepped out of my comfort zone of the daily mundane activities and let my mind and body experience new and different things.
I encourage you to take a walk on the other side of the road, go to a different grocery store, eat at a different time/place, sleep in, read a book, write a review, volunteer, visit a neighbor, etc. Just saying.
How do you get out of the bustle of everyday chores and activities to take a break and rejuvenate? Please leave a comment below.
